Canada –  In reaction to the announcement that the TransMountain Expansion Pipeline construction costs are now estimated to be $12.6B, Greenpeace Canada climate campaigner Mike Hudema said:

“This massive increase in the cost of the Trans Mountain expansion should send chills down the spines of environmentalists and fiscal conservatives alike. The Parliamentary Budget Officer concluded that even modest cost overruns would turn this project into a financial loser, and taxpayers will be on the hook for cost overruns. In the midst of a Parliament-declared climate emergency, the Canadian economy would be better served investing $12.6B in a Green New Deal for oil workers, renewable energy and transit investments than in a pipeline destined to be a stranded asset.”
